THE Warriors squad to face Zambia in the Gabon 20 Commemoration will be named tomorrow, team manager Sharrif Mussa has said. REPORT BY ALBERT MARUFU The match, which marks 20 years since a Zambian national team perished on the shores of Gabon on their way to a 1994 Fifa World Cup qualifier against Senegal, will be played on April 28. Mussa said there were a number of issues to be considered before the final team is named, hence the delay in announcing the final squad. “We were supposed to have announced the squad today [yesterday], but there are a number of issues that we have to take into consideration before coming up with the squad. “The local premiership is currently taking place so we would not want to disturb it. We normally use locally-based players,” he said. Meanwhile, Zifa have put Zambia’s Chipolopolo on standby should Bafana Bafana decide against taking part in the Golden Jubilee Celebrations set for July. The association turns 50 on May 17, but the celebrations will be held in July. Zifa chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze told Standardsport that his association was still in discussions with Safa, but indicated that Zambia had already expressed an interest in the match. South Africa was scheduled to participate at the country’s Independence Day celebrations, but did not commit themselves to the match, resulting in Zifa opting for local clubs. “We are still in talks with South Africa, but Zambia also tentatively agreed to take part. I am not sure if South Africa will come because we were expecting them to come for the Independence Day celebrations, but they did not come,” he said.
