The inaugural table tennis national league which started last month, will improve the standard of the sport in the country, the Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union (Zttu) president John Muringani has said.

“This is a milestone achievement in the history of the sport, we are happy to have finally achieved it after failing last year. This will go a long way in the development of the sport”, said Muringani.
Last year the league was supposed to start under the corporate banner, but failed to kick off due to lack funds.
“This year we have decided to start the league although we don’t have a sponsor, but we used other resources to make it happen rather than wait for a sponsor,” Muringani said.
The league is being dominated by bankers whilst teams in Mutare and Bulawayo are dominated by the police force.
It has a total of 18 teams divided into two pools A and B.
Pool A has teams such as NMB, FBC, CBZ, Kingdom and pool B RBZ, OK, POSB and Stanbic.
