The approximately 4,5 kilometre race was a cancer fundraising event which started at the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe (CAZ) offices and ended at the Round Table Joint Venue in Belgravia.

The teams that participated were composed of five members with one rider and four pushers of a four-wheeled bed.

The Cancer Association of Zimbabwe team came second, while St George’s team was on third position, The Score team came fourth, Kidzcan fifth with Illuminate and Dukes of Hazards coming sixth and seventh respectively.

The fundraising co-ordinator of the event, Linda Mazorodze of CAZ, said the annual bed race was meant to raise funds for cancer centres.

“The race was aimed at raising awareness of men’s cancer, mostly prostate and testicular cancer, while at the same time fundraising for the CAZ and Kidzcan Centres,” said Mazorodze.

Meanwhile, Amida Borges, the organiser of the winning team (Peterhouse) said she was overwhelmed by the team’s performance.

“I was really impressed by my team’s spirit to emerge winners of the race. They really did a good job fighting for the first position which they missed last year in the same race after coming second,” said Borges.
