Flame Lily, who finished the match with 10 man, had taken a 16th minute lead in a rather fortuitous fashion through Motion Muponda, but failed to kill off the game as a contest before half time.

However the Lloyd Mutasa-coached visitors, who had lost Roy Useni to injury in the first half, returned with guns blazing in search of an equaliser in the second half and were rewarded.

In the 57th minute, Genti — who had ventured forward — raided a Flame Lily defender outside the box on the far side and picked his spot before curling the ball beautifully into the top left corner of Proper Chugumba’s goal.

The goal seemed to have spurred Whawha on as they created several scoring chances and the Nesbert Saruchera-coached hosts had the cross bar to thank midway through the half after Oscar Lungu crashed his overhead kick onto it.

Second half substitute Farai Mugumwa was sent off for a second bookable offence with only three minutes left of play, but it was Flame Lily who almost snatched the winner as Moses Demera headed home a Farai Madhanaga free kick only to be ruled offside. In the end both coaches were happy earning their first point of a debut season.
