Bulawayo City started the match on the offensive and were duly rewarded with a goal as early as the fifth minute when Lewis Ncube found himself in a scoring position, before selflessly crossing the ball to Innocent Kutsanzira who had the easiest of tasks tapping the ball home.

ZPC, who were playing second fiddle to their less-fancied opponents, equalised against the run of play when Talent Chawapihwa cut through the City defence before slotting the ball beyond the reach of Ndodana Sibanda in the 36th minute.

In the second half chances for both teams were few and far in between, giving the paltry crowd of about 300 supporters little to cheer.

ZPC Kariba head coach Sunday Chidzambwa was unavailable for yesterday’s match due to a family bereavement and his assistant coach Oliver Matava was in charge.

Matava said he was disappointed with his team’s failure to collect three points at home.

“It’s not good to draw at home, we could have avoided that silly goal but there was a lot of poor marking from our defenders in the first half. However, I’m happy that my boys managed to come back strongly and ensure that we scored the equaliser,” said Matava.

His opposite number Philani Ncube said he was happy his charges had managed to collect a point away from home.

“We are still new in the league so we are learning the ropes and I’m happy with the point. The conditions were tough, the heat here made it challenging for my boys who had to endure a long journey just to get here, so in the end I’m happy we managed to collect a point on the road,” Ncube said.
