Caps United continued to sing the blues when they were humbled by ZPC Kariba at Nyamhunga Stadium yesterday.

Four yellow cards, three injury-induced substitutions and a goal was enough for the action packed first half.

David Temwanjira was the toast of the home team when he scored the only goal of the afternoon in the 18th minute when he finished off Collem Muleya’s cross to torch wild celebrations from the home fans.

Everything looked bad for Makepekepe when coach Llyod Chitembwe was forced to make three substitutions in the first half because of injuries.

Hardlife Zvirekwi, Mitchel Katsvairo and keeper Chris Mverechena replaced injured Dominic Mukandi, Tinotenda Chiunye and Prosper Chigumba respectively putting Chitembwe’s game plan into disarray.

Chitembwe said he didn’t ascertain the gravity of the injuries, but partly blamed the turf at Nyamhunga Stadium.

“Partly, the ground contributed to the injuries. Chigumba was injured on the hip,” he said.

CAPS United were clearly out of the game as they struggled to penetrate the ZPC Kariba defence that was well-marshalled by Sylvester Appiah.

But Chitembwe didn’t read much into yesterday’s defeat saying two losses in a row was not unique since at one time they went for 10 matches without a defeat.

“Nothing, really went wrong. The difference was the goal, two defeats in a row is neither here nor there because at one time, we went for 10 games without a defeat,” he said.

ZPC coach Godfrey Tamirepi said his players played well considering that they were not active in the last two weeks.

“The unfortunate part is that CAPS United were active in the last two weeks and match fitness-wise, we were down and coordination was lacking. However, the players put up a brave fight and managed to collect all the points,” he said.
