The Zimbabwe national women cricket team will today play Namibia in the final of the International Cricket Council Women’s Twenty20 Africa qualifier at Harare Spots Club.

Today’s final, which the Lady Chevrons are likely to win, coincides with Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day is a celebration honouring the mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, Zimbabwe included.

To mark Mother’s Day and simultaneously rallying behind the national women cricket team, upmarket eatery The Centurion Pub and Grill in the main building of Harare Sports Club will host a Mothers’ Day treat for cricket enthusiasts.

“We are hosting a special Mothers’ Day event on Sunday [today] as we host Namibia in the finals of the qualifier,” said Jackie Nettleton one of the directors at The Centurion Pub and Grill.

The outlet is run by Nettleton and her husband Lance.

“Bring your special mothers for lunch while watching the ICC Women’sTwenty20 Africa qualifier final. There is a free glass of wine for all mothers,” said Nettleton.

She said the joint had been celebrating the Lady Chevrons’ amazing run in the qualifiers, which were being played at Harare Sports Club and Old Hararians during the past few days.

“We hosted the ladies in the house on Thursday and they were dining and singing with us as they prepared for their final,” she said.

“On Sunday [today], we host all cricket fans with some old school music in the background to take them back in time.”

Nettleton said one does not need to be a member to access services at the outlet.

“You do not have to be a member of the club to dine there, it is open to the public and it is now a popular meeting point for lovers of different sports,” she said.

Whenever there is an international cricket tournament at Harare Sports Club, the veranda at The Centurion Pub and Grill draws a full house.

“We are expecting a lot of people as we rally behind the ladies. “We invite everyone to come as this is a special day for our mothers,” she said.

The Centurion Pub and Grill is open daily and has a potpourri of activities throughout the week ranging from quiz night, karaoke night to music nights.

There’s a whisky lounge on site, set up separately from the indoor dining room, the main bar and the veranda area.
