The City of Kadoma has warned residents to take precautions when using borehole water to protect themselves against diseases.
Council said the alert was a precautionary measure to ensure the health and well-being of residents, highlighting the importance of access to safe and clean drinking water.
Kadoma mayor Nigel Ruzario said the city thrives to provide health services to its residents and ratepayers.
Ruzario also acknowledged that the city was struggling to provide constant water supplies forcing residents to drill boreholes.
“We know that boreholes are initially intended to be drilled on 2000m² stands, but due to the council’s limitations in providing adequate water provision, many residents have had to drill on smaller 200 m² stands,” he said.
“Given this reality, as the city, we urge all residents to prioritise their health and safety by having their borehole water tested for potential contaminants.
“Let us work together to ensure that our water supply is safe and clean for everyone.”
He said Kadoma’shealth department is expected to conduct a series of tests to determine if the water is safe for human consumption and if it is contaminated, some boreholes may be decommissioned to prevent any potential health risks.

“If any borehole is found to have contaminated water, it will be decommissioned immediately to protect the health and well-being of our residents.
“We prioritise the safety of our citizens and will take all necessary measures to ensure access to clean and safe water.”
Ruzario encouraged residents to cooperate with the health department’s testing initiatives and take necessary precautions to ensure their water supply is safe.
“As the City of Kadoma, we urge all residents to cooperate fully with our health personnel as they conduct water testing across the city,” he said.
“This initiative is crucial in identifying any potential water quality issues and taking necessary steps to address them.
“By working together, we can ensure that our residents have access to safe and clean drinking water, which is essential for their health and well-being.
“I appeal to all residents to support this effort and allow our health personnel to conduct the necessary tests to guarantee the safety of our water supply.”
