A 28-YEAR-OLD property manager appeared before the Harare magistrates’ court last week charged with theft of trust property involving US$30 000, which he allegedly converted to his personal use.
Tatenda Nyamukutira was remanded out of custody to January 27 for routine remand and was ordered not to interfere with state witnesses.
Prosecutors alleged that between January and December 2025, Nyamukutira and his accomplice, Aldrich Muchipisi, were tasked with managing Varsity Heights in Chinhoyi, a property housing students from Chinhoyi University of Technology.
Instead of depositing collected rental fees into the company's ZB Bank account as required, the pair allegedly diverted the money for personal use.
The scheme was uncovered through an internal audit of monthly schedules compiled by Nyamukutira, which revealed discrepancies between reported collections and actual payments.
“The accused instructed sub-wardens to deposit rental payments into his EcoCash wallet instead of the corporate account,” the court heard.
The investigation is ongoing.
