Hero’s welcome for Majoni in Triangle

Majoni last week traced his roots back to Mufakose High School in the Lowveld.

World Boxing Federation Super Flyweight All Africa belt holder, Tinashe Majoni received an overwhelming welcome on his return to a school that gave birth to his illustrious boxing career.

Majoni last week traced his roots back to Mufakose High School in the Lowveld.

It was an emotional return for the 26-year old boxer, who traced his roots back to his hometown in the Lowveld to celebrate his achievement.

He was accompanied by trainer and manager Ali “Otto” Phiri.

“It was quite a pleasure to be here. I felt the need to comeback and celebrate with you what I have achieved as this where the story began,” said Majoni.

Majoni claimed the vacant World Boxing Federation Super Flyweight All Africa after knocking out Aubrey Masamba of Malawi in the third round late March this year.

Adressing the students of Mufakose High, Majoni gave an inspirational speech on his humble beginnings of boxing encouraging his former peers to work hard for their dreams.

“As I stand before you, I want to tell you that nothing is impossible if you work hard.

“I started my boxing career here in Triangle, and we used to train with a punching bag hanging on a tree but I never gave up on my dream and here I am today, holding the African Belt.

"You too can achieve whatever you can dream no matter your background, all that is needed is hardwork and dedication towards your dream,” said Majoni.

Having started his career in Triangle Majoni has risen through the ranks winning belts for the

Masvingo Province in national tournaments.

Majoni turned professional in 2019, having met Ali Phiri in 2017 when he was still fighting under Charles Manyuchi Boxing Academy.

Zimbabwe Boxing Federation president Festus Dumbu who is also based in the Lowveld, described how Majoni showed potential from a young age.

“We are here gathered to celebrate one of our own. Majoni started of here in the Lowveld, and we are proud that as Triangle we have produced a championship.

“As we celebrate him today (Wednesday) we challenge you to follow his footsteps and carry the flag and the history of boxing in Lowveld,” said Dumbu.
