Harare's Emmanuel College has hailed the Term 2 Interschools golf tournament after their team won the A Division competition at ZRP Golf Club last week.
St Johns College were the biggest winners at the successful junior golf event after they stopped the main Championship division contest while St George's College and Lomagundi were also victors in their respective classes.
A total of 15 schools took part in the event which was graced by Sport, Arts, Recreation and Culture minister Anselem Sanyatwe.
Other schools which participated in the tournament include Arundel School, CBC, Cornway College, Dominican Convent, Goldridge College, Hellenic Academy, Hillcrest College, Peterhouse Boys, Peterhouse Girls, Riverdale School and The Heritage School.
Emmanuel College patron Charles Kamba said the tournament was important in giving their golfers an opportunity to compete and improve.
"The just ended junior golf tournament that we hosted at the ZRP Golf Club is a very important tournament for us as a school because it provides the standard where we measure the expertise, the skill improvement of our golfers at Emmamuel College considering that they will be competing with somewhat top junior golfers from across Zimbabwe," he said.
"Remember this is a national tournament so there are junior golfers who are playing from scratch and have very low handicaps so it gives them better exposure. This is a tournament that we are using to prepare our golfers for international tournaments which means it's important.
"Going forward we expect to see a lot of improvement from our golfers in terms of attitude and how they see the sport. This tournament also included a coaching clinic where we explain the rules to them which helps them to get better. In August we are going to the Junior All all Africa tournament in Durban so this tournament was also important in preparation for that event," he said.
