FC PLATINUM coach Norman Mapeza heaved a huge sigh of relief after his men ended their four match winless streak when they edged TelOne in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Ascot stadium yesterday.

Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya was the hero after scoring the solitary goal of the match on the 63rd minute mark. FC Platinum had last won on the 30th of April when they beat Caps United 2-1 at Rufaro stadium.

They went onto draw in the four games that followed against Ngezi Platinum, Highlanders, Bikita Minerals and Yadah. For Mapeza, the win was enough to keep him hoping as they head into the international break. For TelOne this was their their first home lose.

In their post match reflections, Mapeza said: " TelOne did not really trouble us today. They were unbeaten at home and I thought they would be so problematic to us.

"But we managed to contain them. We got the win and its a big relief for us, we can go into the break and get some sleep as we have not managed to win.

"I have been telling my boys that it's a matter of patience. After the draws, we needed the win. We are happy with this result," Mapeza said.

His counterpart Herbert Maruwa was disappointed. He said:"This is our first home defeat. It happens in football, we have to move on. We have to pick ourselves up and hope to win in our next."

While it was an evenly balanced affair, TelOne only managed to create meaningful chances in the first half with Washington Navaya as the protagonist.

Navaya was however subsdued in the second half. And the ever running Ngwenya, weighed in with a goal after poor communication between TelOne defenders, which left goalie Tapiwa Chilenga exposed.
