Bikita Minerals won 5-4 on penalties

Bikita Minerals stormed into the quarter-finals of the 2025 Chibuku Super Cup quarter-finals after beating TelOne FC 5-4 on penalties at Ascot stadium yesterday.

The match had ended 1-1 in regulation time and needed to be settled via the dreaded penalty shoot-out.

Striker Tinaye Tsimba scored after four minutes for Bikita Minerals and Tawanda Macheke equalised for The Wifi boys on the 47th minute.

In the penalties, Allan Chapinduka was the fall guy for TelOne after missing the sole penalty that made them lose the match. His teammates Calvin Chigara,Bruno Mtigo, Leeroy Murape and Tawanda Macheke converted their penalties.

Meanwhile, Spencer Mugariri, Tadiwanashe Murasiranwa, Chelsea Nyakope, Felix Moyo and Tinaye Tsimba were clinical for The Lithium Boys.

Bikita Minerals coach Wilson Mutekede was on cloud nine after the win.

"This was a good game, quite competitive,” he said.  “We started early and we came out of the blocks and managed to create the first chance that we could not convert, but we got an opener.

"But after getting an opener, we couldn't hold on. We managed to hold on until halftime, but after halftime, we came back slowly and we conceded.

“Then on, the game was a bit difficult on our side. I think we allowed them to come, gave them space and we played a good show.

"We are happy that we managed to stabilise and held on for the shootout, but we were able to come and I think they also have a good account of themselves."

His counterpart, Herbert Maruwa, was visibly angry after his men wasted a series of chances to lose the match.

"Very, very disappointing. We conceded a silly goal in the first half after a blunder,” Maruwa said.

“ Then we picked up our pieces in the second half, managed to get an early goal.

“And after that we got a lot of chances, chance after chance, chance after chance.

"And the guys were missing. It's the end of the game. It comes to penalties. Penalties, it's just a lottery.

“Anyone can win. Just one miss, you're out. You just need to make sure, work hard and keep on working. We now go back to the league.”

It was the same case scenario at Mandava stadium where FC Platinum lost 5-3 on penalties to Manica Diamonds.

The match had ended 0-0 in regulation time, though the home team were in control of proceedings from the onset with their free-flowing football.
