When Delta Beverages came on board of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League in 2011, Zimbabwean football was in tatters with nowhere to start from.
At that time football had no sponsor following the withdrawal of Econet and later on the Commercial Bank of Zimbabwe (CBZ), who had found the football environment a risk to their business.
The then Delta Beverages marketing director Maxen Karombo made it clear that they were coming in as league sponsors to help football attract more partners and sponsors to sustain itself.
Karombo was simply telling the PSL that Delta was having the game played, but clubs had to find ways of sustaining themselves.
In short, he was saying prize money was not meant for sustaining the running costs of a team.
Now from nowhere, this Scottland Football Club owner called Scott Sakupwanya comes in to shout out that — Delta Beverages — our loyal and all-weather friend is putting little into football.
Has the Scottland Football Club owner ever asked himself how football has been operating with that little since 2011 when he did not even know the gates to a football stadium?
Where in the world has league prize money ever been used to sustain the running costs of football clubs?

Surely, how can our football allow itself to have its loyal friend insulted by a Jonny come today whose long association with football is not guaranteed.
His disciples will claim that Sakupwanya was diplomatic and polite in his appeal to Delta but there is no diplomacy in attacking the Castle Lager brand in public.
What is saddening is that this Honourable Scott Sakupwanya thinks and believes somehow that he is now Zimbabwean football himself when in reality he is just one of the leaders of the 18-teams in the Premiership.
Sakupwanya even suggested that Delta should fork out at least US$3 million every year to sponsor the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League but then we should forgive him because he is a dealer and not a businessman.
Sorry Scott. There is something called profits and losses and Delta Beverages are giving out what they can afford from their profits and the PSL agreed to that.
Delta operates a very big business where every cent is accounted for not street exchanges where money is exchanged without being counted how much it is
However, when a big spender like him begins to ask about prize money we begin to question whether there is something happening behind the scenes.
Is something happening that we don't know about?
Right now, we should have been expecting the honourable to be telling us that Mabvuku Stadium is complete and ready for use.
