Molai to host arts exhibition

NATURE defined artisan Lydia Molai

NATURE defined artisan Lydia Molai will hosts an arts exhibition dubbed 'Mavambo' at Pikicha Gallery, Helensview shopping centre from May 17 to 19. The exhibition will be open to everyone as it is a free entry event.

The 31-year-old artiste is setting to climb up the ladder in her career as an artiste as she is taking up a new path through Mavambo to venture into industrial designing.

Lydia is known for her paintings and drawings which are published under 'Lydia Arts' brand.

Lydia Arts has been running since 2020 with the vision to become a global powerhouse for all genres of artefacts. The brand is run by a team of five namely Judith, Talent, Kudakwashe, Joshua and Lydia herself.

Lydia Arts has been evolving to keep up with the latest trends when it comes to artefacts such as portraits and paintings. Molai said she chose to name her exhibition 'Mavambo' as it signifies the beginning of her new journey as an evolved artiste.

“Mavambo signifies the beginning of the journey that i am taking as an industrial designer as i previously used to work with paintings and drawings, however this time around because of the degree that i am taking i am re-introducing myself as Lydia the Industrial designer," she said.

Molai’s gift was nurtured by Peter Birch Art College in Harare where she attained her diploma which later landed her at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT).

Currently she is in her final semester at CUT where she has been studying creative art and industrial design.

"I am almost done with my grooming to be a whole industrial designer, hence my Shona exhibition theme 'Mavambo' which means the beginning,” she said.

“The exhibition will take place from May 17 to 19 where entry is free but the exhibitions will be for sale."

Molai's work mainly depicts nature from the landscapes, animals as evident in her drawings, paintings and fabric printed furniture designs.
