Fashion entrepreneur fosters innovation for SMEs growth

The company, which was founded by Gripline Tyres co-director Anyway Masunda, offers quality yet affordable products while priding in offering unmatched convenience to its clientele.

Urban Gear Fashions, simply known as UGF in the local fashion industry, continues to win hearts, thanks to its innovation and tailor-made services that have become a hit with both individual and corporate clients.

The company, which was founded by Gripline Tyres co-director Anyway Masunda, offers quality yet affordable products while priding in offering unmatched convenience to its clientele.

“UGF is all about giving our treasured clients the best product at affordable rates,” Masunda said.

“We don’t believe in profiteering and we have had clients expressing their shock whenever they walk into our shops.

“Our products are of high quality, but the prices are quite reasonable.

“We also have flexible payment terms for loyal clients and this ensures that you can enjoy the convenience of getting whatever apparel you need for your special occasions and paying later.”

While some fashion companies have specialised in pay now and enjoy later arrangements, UGF is well stocked and ensures the client enjoys the beauty of a wide selection.

“We are always fully stocked. Yes, our clients can also pre-order and pay on delivery but we have made sure that we are always fully stocked because there are many instances when you will have to look for befitting clothes for your special occasions.

“Under such circumstances, you may not have the liberty of waiting a day or week until the delivery is made.

“Staying fully stocked makes sure that our clients enjoy unparalleled convenience yet with unmatched savings on every purchase.”

The rising entrepreneur recently received the Micro-Entrepreneur of the Year award from the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) and she attributed her success to professionalism, hard work, innovation and consistency.

“I am a firm believer in breaking barriers and I am happy that our company is now getting due recognition from reputable national awards boards like ZNCC,” Masunda said.

“This attests to our pedigree and we hope to continue on this positive path.

“We want to be a market leader in this industry and we are happy that the prospects for growth are high with more branches in the pipeline.”

UGF also boasts of a competent sales team that has successfully entrenched its footprint through quality and tailor-made services for individuals, executives, corporates and various other institutions.

“We have a mobile and highly professional sales team that is equipped with delivery vehicles to ensure that each client gets the convenience of enjoying ourselves from wherever they are,” she said.

“Clients can have the convenience of choosing from our delivered stock from wherever they are.

“We understand we have clients that have to deal with a lot and those may enjoy the beauty of our delivery services. The cost for this service is equally affordable.”

A National University of Science and Technology graduate, the award-winning businesswoman also attributed her success to clarity of intent coupled with good networking and ideas exchange with other progressive female entrepreneurs.

“I am a self-made entrepreneur who has shrugged adversity and defied odds to become the person that I am today,” Masunda said.

“My vision is to grow an international brand that will help put Zimbabwe on the map and grow the economy through foreign currency earnings.

“I am also a champion for women emancipation who serves as the secretary for Empowered Women.

“The hope is that I continue tapping into available opportunities through relentless pursuit of purpose.”

The entrepreneur, who recently returned from a business expedition in China, said she was working with Empowered Women to organise an international conference that will unleash the potential of women entrepreneurs.

“I want the success I am enjoying as an individual to inspire fellow women from various sectors of the economy,” Masunda said.

“We want to make sure that every female entrepreneur gets to achieve and live her dream.

“We are, therefore, hosting an international conference and awards event for women entrepreneurs from November 24 to 25 at the Rainbow Towers Hotel under the auspices of Empowered Women.”

Masunda hinted at opening more branches in Harare and beyond as she continues to exert her UGF brand as a powerhouse in the country.

“We are going all out in our quest to transform the local fashion industry through image consultancy, grooming as well as selling of quality clothes,” she said.

“We have more branches coming and we thank our loyal clients who continue supporting us.

“We are also encouraged by the opportunities for women in business and we are working on opening more branches in Harare and across the country.”
