Zimbabwe’s culinary scene is about to get a major spotlight with the official launch of the Taste Zimbabwe Food Awards, a brand-new platform dedicated to celebrating the country’s vibrant food culture and the people who make it special.
The awards were officially launched on August 6 at an elegant dinner attended by potential sponsors and key industry representatives.
Among the notable guests were senior executives from CBZ Bank, First Capital Bank, ZB Bank, Econet Wireless, Zimnat Insurance, Fastjet Airlines, Zimgold Industries, StandOwt, Simbisa Brands and the media.
The evening marked the unveiling of what promises to be Zimbabwe’s most exciting conversation for food lovers — a chance for everyday Zimbabweans to share, debate, and celebrate where to find the best eats in the country.
The Taste Zimbabwe Food Awards aim to harness the power of digital platforms to get the nation talking about food.
From the streets of Harare to the small towns and growth points, Zimbabweans will be invited to vote for their favourite spots in six exciting categories: Best Chicken and Chips, Best Burger, Best Sadza, Best Pizza, Best Multi-Ethnic Cuisine and People’s Choice Award.
Voting will be conducted via a dedicated WhatsApp platform launching later this month, ensuring participation is easy and accessible to food lovers everywhere.
The voting campaign will culminate at the Tastezim Food Festival, a day-long celebration of flavour, entertainment, and community.

The festival will feature popular food vendors offering tasting experiences, giving the public a chance to sample some of Zimbabwe’s top culinary creations.
Winners from each category will be honoured at the festival, which will also feature live performances from top entertainers from both Zimbabwe and South Africa — promising a feast for the senses that goes beyond the plate.
Speaking at the launch, organisers emphasised that the Taste Zimbabwe Food Awards are not just about recognising excellence but also about igniting national pride in local culinary talent.
“We want Zimbabweans to take ownership of the food conversation — to celebrate our street food legends, our hidden gems, and our beloved restaurants,” Lesley Gibbons, a representative from Taste Zimbabwe said.
With the blend of a people-powered voting system, a celebration of diverse tastes, and a grand festival finale, the Taste Zimbabwe Food Awards are set to become a signature event on the national calendar — one that puts the spotlight firmly on the passion and creativity of Zimbabwe’s food industry.
