New Land Cruiser ‘FJ’ makes its world premiere

The FJ has removable front and rear corner bumpers, which only allow the damaged parts to be replaced, which overall improves the repairability of the vehicle.

Toyota Motor Company unveiled the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ in Japan on the 20th of October 2025.

Until now, the Land Cruiser lineup has consisted of three distinct series: the Station Wagon or SUV that always showcases the latest technologies and has evolved into Toyota's flagship model, the 300 series, followed by the heavy-duty model with outstanding durability, a true workhorse, the 70 series and then the Land Cruiser 250 which was created in 2024 to cater for simple and sturdy day-to-day tasks.

"With the addition of the Land Cruiser FJ to the series, Toyota will provide new value in the form of 'Freedom and Joy'that come from enjoying the Land Cruiser in your own way, while retaining the reliability, durability and off-road performance that support people's lifestyles".

According to Toyota, the FJ will be cheaper than the other three models, making it a marketing strategy to attract the majority of people in the Land Cruiser family.

The Land Cruiser FJ's wheelbase will be 270 mm shorter than the 250's, which makes it the baby amongst the Land Cruiser lineup.

It shares its platform with the Toyota Hilux champ, and just like the Champ, Toyota has made the new Land Cruiser FJ customizable, offering MOLLE panels for attaching equipment.

The FJ has removable front and rear corner bumpers, which only allow the damaged parts to be replaced, which overall improves the repairability of the vehicle.

Toyota designed the FJ in a boxy design, borrowing styling cues from the bigger Land Cruisers.

Just like the other Land Cruisers, the FJ features a big gear selector and a landscape-oriented screen on the bulky dash.

The FJ features a 2.7-litre four-cylinder engine that puts out 161 horsepower and 246 N.m of torque, which delivers power through a part-time four-wheel-drive and a six-speed transmission.

"Toyota is also developing the Land Hopper, an electric personal mobility vehicle designed to carry people and cargo, offering new value in mobility (launch date undecided)."

The Japan launch for the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is planned for around mid-2026, with prototype pictures already circulating.
