Victoria Falls-based musician Just Leo has released her latest Afro-fusion track titled Sanabwelela.
Launched last Thursday, the project is an exploration of the human experience that the artist describes as her most emotional work to date.
The title Sanabwelela translates to “they never came back”. Just Leo utilises powerful war imagery as a metaphor for the internal conflicts many face, including depression, emotional neglect, and gender-based violence.
“It’s an emotionally driven body of work that speaks to love, loss, and the silent battles many people fight away from the public eye,” she said.
“The project reflects on people who disappeared emotionally long before they were physically gone.”
Through Sanabwelela, Just Leo aims to break the stigma surrounding mental health, offering the track as both a lament and a call to action. She hopes the music encourages listeners to check in on one another and process grief without a sense of shame.
Beyond its emotional depth, the track reinforces Just Leo’s reputation as a “cultural storyteller”. Raised in the resort town of Victoria Falls, her artistry is deeply rooted in community and consciousness.
She stands out as one of the few young artists actively working to preserve Zimbabwe’s rich linguistic heritage.

By weaving fading indigenous languages into her music—including Nyanja/Chichewa, Tonga, and Nambya — she celebrates and fights to revive the regional tongues of her hometown and country.
With its blend of Afro-fusion sounds and heartfelt storytelling, Sanabwelela creates a vital space for reflection, empathy, and honest conversation.
