Equipping dreams: Chantelle Jani Foundation empowers young learners

The foundation recently rolled out a community-based stationery distribution initiative aimed at supporting children from under-resourced backgrounds.

For many children across Zimbabwe, the school day begins with determination but little else — a pen shared between classmates, a single exercise book stretched across several subjects, or lessons followed without any writing materials at all.

It is within this harsh reality that the Chantelle Jani Foundation has stepped in, using a simple yet powerful intervention to restore hope and dignity to young learners.

The foundation recently rolled out a community-based stationery distribution initiative aimed at supporting children from under-resourced backgrounds.

The programme seeks to remove one of the most basic but persistent barriers to education — the lack of learning materials — a challenge that often contributes to absenteeism, poor academic performance, and low self-esteem among pupils.

Founder Chantelle Jani said the initiative goes beyond charity, focusing instead on equity and opportunity.

“When a child lacks the tools to learn, their potential is limited before they even step into the classroom,” Jani said.

“Education should never be determined by a family’s financial situation.”

The drive targeted families living in the Gunhill squatter camps, where economic hardship and limited access to educational support continue to hinder children’s learning prospects.

Each stationery pack was carefully assembled to meet practical classroom needs, enabling learners to participate fully and confidently in their studies.

Beyond the physical items distributed, the foundation highlighted the psychological impact of the initiative.

Many children who received the packs expressed renewed enthusiasm for school, describing a sense of belonging and motivation that had previously been absent.

The Chantelle Jani Foundation noted that education remains central to its mission, alongside broader objectives of youth empowerment, community development, and long-term social impact.

The organisation believes that sustainable change begins with investing in children at grassroots level and addressing challenges before they escalate.

As it expands its outreach programmes, the foundation has called on corporates, institutions, and individuals to partner in building a future where no child is excluded from learning due to poverty.

“Real transformation starts when communities come together,” Jani said.

“When we equip children today, we are shaping leaders for tomorrow.”
