The Anglican Diocese of Manicaland Mothers Union has donated blankets to elderly church members in recognition of their long-standing support for the union.
The donation was made by Mothers Union president Eunice Ruwona during the union’s annual commemoration held at St Mathias Tsonzo Mission School in Mutasa District this week.
Hundreds of women attended the event, which also featured a performance by seasoned gospel musician Dorcas Moyo.
Ruwona, who is the wife of Anglican Diocese of Manicaland Bishop Eric Ruwona, also donated gifts to clergy wives in the diocese.
“We have donated several blankets to the elderly in the diocese because they have supported the Mothers Union for generations,” Ruwona said.
“These elderly people have been there for us, and we are happy that they are still part of us.”
She said the donations to clergy wives were meant to recognise their contribution to the work of the church.
“I also made some donations to the clergy wives who really make the work of the clergy flourish in their day-to-day affairs,” she said.

Bishop Ruwona described the Mothers Union as the backbone of the Anglican Church, saying its contribution had been critical to the growth and development of the institution.
“The Mothers Union is the backbone of the church. Without them, the church would not be what it is today,” he said.
“As a church, we are happy with the role played by the Mothers Union.”
He said the Manicaland chapter had also been working with the Anglican Mothers Union of Zimbabwe and its international counterparts.
According to Bishop Ruwona, the Mothers Union has played an important role in strengthening and preserving marriages around the world.
Anglican Diocese of Manicaland secretary Edmund Samutereko also attended the event.
