AIR Zimbabwe is back on the global reservation system after renewing its membership, a move that is expected to drive traffic to the national airline.

The return comes more than six months after the airline was kicked-out for failing to pay fees. A member of the family remits a certain percentage for each ticket sales.
Shingai Taruvinga, the airline’s spokesperson confirmed last week Air Zimbabwe’s return to the central reservation system as well as renewing its membership with global distribution systems (GDS).
“The airline is now visible and accessible online and can be booked worldwide in all countries that we have Central Reservation Systems (CRS) and Global Distribution Systems (GDS) agreement,” Taruvinga said.
She said the airline was now a member of World Span, which is the hosting platform. Air Zimbabwe has also renewed its membership with GDS such as Galileo, Amadeus, Sabre and Travel Sky.
Taruvinga said the move to return to the GDS was “a key tool in airline marketing and management of information systems allowing customers and travel agents to process passenger requests”, such as meals and seats.
It also enables seamless service in passenger handling from booking to check-in through to boarding and disembarking as it is linked to departure systems.

The return on the GDS is expected to grow traffic to the airline that is expected to resume regional routes. Air Zimbabwe recently resumed flights to South Africa.
The numbers have been low despite the airline charging the cheapest fares on the route, reflecting the low confidence passengers have on the airline.
