Kickboxing body bemoans lack of financial support

Lined-up events and programmes include the coaches certification and training for all provinces to be held on February 25 and the Independence Trophy.

ZIMBABWE Kickboxing Association (ZKA) has bemoaned lack of financial support and appreciation of the sport in the country as it celebrated its 18th anniversary in Harare yesterday.

ZKA long-serving president Tony Kamangira, who was recently elected the director for Africa Professional Kickboxing category, said their 18-year journey has been challenging due to perennial financial constraints.

“To push the sport without finance is tough. Last year, we battled to send our team to international championship, but we always tried our best. Against that background, we have achieved quite a number of things over the past 18 years. We have manoeuvred and spread to all corners of the country. For that reason, we are now being recognised internationally,” he said.

Kamangira’s election to a continental level position means that Zimbabwe is set to be given an opportunity to host other African countries this year.

Lined-up events and programmes include the coaches certification and training for all provinces to be held on February 25 and the Independence Trophy.

Zimbabwe is also scheduled to send kickboxers to the Great North 1 to be held in Pretoria, South Africa, and another international event to be held in Victoria Falls later this year.
