College Student mixes brushes, books

University of Zimbabwe final year student Nyasha Nathan decided to evoke her entrepreneurial abilities by venturing into the world of beauty and make-up artistry

University of Zimbabwe final year student Nyasha Nathan decided to evoke her entrepreneurial abilities by venturing into the world of beauty and make-up artistry while juggling between assignment and exam.

Responding to call for graduates to shake off the attitude of wanting to be employed which was made by Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development minister Amon Murwira, Nathan decided to make use of the make-up certificate she attained in 2019 before enrolling for her degree. She opened her beauty parlour ‘SmomohBeautyBar’ in the capital to create employment for herself even before she graduates from the university.

The student, however, said balancing her work and school work can be difficult although she is managing to balance both.

“Being a professional makeup artist while being in school at the same time is never easy, but trying is better than never. I did my makeup course in 2019 during the Covid era and l managed to get my certificate, l have been doing makeup since 2019 up to now and l must say it was a tough journey in the beginning as l was new in the field, but as time went by l mastered how it works,” said Nathan.

“I now even have my own place in the central business district meaning I am able to earn some money for myself and I can gladly say I managed to create some sort of employment for myself.”
