ZIMBABWE recorded their second Group B draw at the African Nations Championships after being held one all by the Democratic Republic of Congo in Bouake, Ivory Coast, Thursday night.

Dynamos striker Philip Marufu, who also scored in the 2-2 draw with Ghana on Tuesday, was once again the saviour for the Zimbabwe second-string outfit.

Marufu planted a powerful header from a well-taken corner by attacking midfielder Ovidy Karuru to equalise on 27 minutes.

The DRC had nosed ahead after the Zimbabwe defence was caught flat-footed inside 18 minutes.

A dangerous cross was whipped from the right flank, finding TP Mazembe ace Tresor Mputu lurking in the box. Unmarked, the former Arsenal trialist picked his spot neatly and tucked a header beyond goalkeeper Willard Manyatera’s reach.

The Congo had the better of the exchanges in the second half as too often Zimbabwe’s defence was caught napping.

But they lacked sharpness upfront to punish Sunday Marimo’s Zimbabwean outfit.
