ZIMBABWE saw a good first half go to waste whey lost 31-5 to Wales in the first match of the IRB Sevens World Cup in Dubai yesterday.

The Zimbabweans matched the Welsh in defence, skills and set pieces in a tightly contested first half.

Aled Brew scored two tries early in the first half for Wales and the Red Dragons never really looked in trouble for a while. But before the half time whistle, Zimbabwe winger Gerald Sibanda did pull the score back to 12-5.

Craig Hill restored Wales’s lead by rushing under the posts for a converted try after two minutes of the second half.

Lee Williams added another try having rounded the Zimbabweans to score in the corner. The try was not converted.

Zimbabwe had a spell of pressure midway through the second half but that was undone when they fumbled wide allowing Hill to move in for his second try.
