CARA Black and Kevin Ullyett – the two Zimbabweans playing at Wimbledon – had mixed fortunes yesterday in the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles.
Black and her partner Leander Paes of India progressed to the semis after dismissing Brazilian Andre Sa and Japan’s Ai Sugiyama 6-3, 6-3 at the All England Club in London.
The results put Black through to her second semi-final at Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the year. The 30-year-old from Harare and her American partner Liezel Huber will meet the US’s glamour sisters Venus and Serena Williams in today’s women’s doubles semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Ullyett and his partner Su-Wei Hsieh of Taipei, the fourth seeds, were defeated 6-3, 5-7, 9-7 by Australian Stephen Huss and Spaniard Virginia Ruano Pascual. – Staff Writer.
