PSL, DeMbare among Zifa biggest debtors

By Brian NkiwaneTHE Premier Soccer League (PSL) and reigning champions Dynamos top the list of the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) debtors, a financial report for the year ending December 31 2010 has revealed.

PSL and DeMbare are part of the 20-member associations, provinces and clubs that owe the football governing body US$130 237, 57 in unpaid levies.The total debt for the 20-member associations, provinces and clubs, that include Aces Academy, Gunners FC, CAPS United, Southern Region, Harare Province, Mat South Province, Manicaland Province, Masvingo Province, Women Soccer, Zisca, ZSMA, Junior League, Five Aside Football, FUZ, Nash, Naph and Tertiary, was US$149 967,57.

It was Harare Province, Mat South Province, Women Soccer and Naph who made an effort to pay different amounts that saw Zifa collecting a paltry US$19 730.

The PSL owes Zifa US$41 120 in unpaid levies for the 2009/10 soccer season and US$16 480 for the 2011 soccer season. DeMbare are second on the debt ladder as they owe Zifa US$50 774 which they accrued in their participation in the CAF Champions League.

CAPS United owe Zifa US$42 321,43 which was accrued from player transfer levies they have not remitted to Zifa after the sale of six players to South African clubs.

Another Premiership side Gunners, also failed to remit the 15% levy after the sale of their players to South African clubs thereby owing Zifa US$ 9 107,14. Aces Youth Academy also owes Zifa US$6 875.

The academy has produced high-profile players like Knowledge Musona who is now plying his trades in Germany and Khama Billiat, now based in South Africa.

Other associations, clubs and provinces owe Zifa funds ranging from US$1 950 to as low as US$650. Zifa made a loss of US$965 021, an increase of 34% from the previous year.
