Kirsty Coventry injury scare ahead of Olympics

BY ALBERT MARUFUZIMBABWE’S medal hopeful at the forthcoming London Olympic Games, Kirsty Coventry suffered a setback in her preparations by dislocating her knee cap at a training session in the United States on Monday.

Coventry is now training in the United States where she has linked up with her former Auburn University coach Kim Brackin in preparations for the Olympic Games that start on July 27 in London.

According to a tweet by the Olympic champion, a scan revealed that she would need a lot of rehabilitation but she remains positive.

“I dislocated my patella (knee cap) on Monday! Got MRI results back today and its ok got a lot of rehab but I remain positive and will overcome this,” she tweeted.

The 28-year-old again tweeted on Saturday that she was back in the water, but swimming with the aid of a float.

“Still on crutches but was back in the water yesterday: bouy (float) between my legs and legs tied together…” read Saturday’s tweet.

Coventry won gold, silver and bronze at the 2004 Olympic Games while at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China she won three silver medals and gold.She was also the toast of the Zimbabwe team at the All Africa Games in Mozambique last year winning eight medals; four gold and four silver.
