Norman Maroto grabbed a brace while Godfrey Moyo converted from  a penalty as Motor Action upstaged Black Mambas in a rather drab Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Morris Depot yesterday.

On an afternoon where the result did not truly reflect the dullness of the encounter, chances hardly came by for both sides, especially in the first half.

Moyo converted from the spot in the 77th minute after Mambas defender Tendai Chinungo had fouled Ishmael Lawe in the box.Maroto doubled the visitors’ advantage in the 88th minute when he pounced on a rebound after Mambas goalkeeper Learnmore Jere had punched back into play Lawe’s shot.

The former Dynamos striker completed the rout by capitalising on a mix-up between Jere and his defender Ben Nyahunzvi to slot home the winner  right on the 90- minute stroke.

In Zvishavane, Ephraim Shoko reports that Big spending FC Platinum kept pressure on pacesetters Highlanders when they beat struggling Quelaton 2-0 at Mandava.

Two goals in either half by Ali Sadiki and Allen Gahadzikwa ensured that Platinum go second overnight ahead of today’s round of fixtures. Within 10 minutes, Sadiki thrust Platinum ahead after being fed by Zephaniah Ngodzo on the left and he coolly lobbed the ball over an advancing Winston Chiwetu in goals for Quelaton.

The teams went for the breather with Quelaton dominating but with nothing to show for it. After the breather, the two sides exhibited fascinating football but both took turns to miss the target. Gahadzikwa then finished Quelaton off after 67 minutes when he got to the end of Sadiki’s cross.

Quelaton could have pulled one back in the 73th minute but Pakamani Dube saw his effort crash off the woodwork.
