Zimbabwe sneak into Pran Series final

Daniel Nhakaniso ZIMBABWE sneaked into today’s Pran RFL Triangular Series at the expense of Bangladesh despite losing to South Africa by six wickets in their final round-robin match at Harare Sports Club yesterday.

 

South Africa needed to chase down Zimbabwe’s par score of 124 for six inside 15 overs to knock them out of tomorrow’s final but reached the target in 17, 4 overs to ensure the hosts progressed courtesy of their superior net run rate.Following yesterday’s result, all three teams finished tied on eight points from four matches but South Africa and Zimbabwe occupied the top places due to their superior net run rate.

Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat as they have done throughout the series.In-form opening batsman Hamilton Masakadza top scored with 36 runs in Zimbabwe’s paltry 124 for six in their allotted 50 overs.South African left arm medium seam bowler Wayne Parnell was the pick of the South African bowlers with impressive bowling figures of three wickets for 16 runs in his four overs.

South Africa’s hard hitting opener Richard Levi led from the top with a dominant 54 off 34 balls which included four fours and as many sixes  to steer the Proteas to 130 four for four in 17, 4 overs.

Zimbabwe’s defence of their meagre total took off to an impressive start after Chris Mpofu dismissed the South African skipper Hashim Amla for a first ball duck but the bowling department could not maitain the momentum throughout the innings.
