In Da Belly restaurant is the place to be

We had just walked around the majestic Victoria Falls, deliberately working up an appetite, and we were now hungry and needed food in our stomachs. What better place to go to than In Da Belly, nestled at the far end of the Victoria Falls Rest Camp and Lodges.

The location of the restaurant, removed from the hustle and bustle of the busy tourist town, meant that we could relax and enjoy the surroundings. Parking on site also contributed to my piece of mind. The restaurant backs onto the railway line, which got the kids excited as a train passed by blowing its horn.

There is a very relaxed atmosphere at In Da Belly, well-suited to the restaurant’s location and potential clientèle. A swimming pool separates the restaurant from the car park and there were a few intrepid swimmers enjoying what must have been quite chilly water, given that we were still on the outer edges of winter.

The restaurant has an open breezy layout with thatched roof and solid teak furniture. A bar and a couple of mounted TVs give a broad spectrum of opportunity for every visitor. We positioned ourselves in a corner and inspected the menu. Quite clearly they try to keep things simple.

This is where you come to eat, so although there is obviously a choice, the simplicity is designed to appeal to a wide range of tastes. Our order included butternut soup, chicken burger, warthog schnitzel and a rib burger.

All the food was happily consumed, which is always a good test when kids are involved. I was a little disappointed with the lack of anything green on the plate. Even a burger and chips can include a few bits of lettuce and tomato or coleslaw on the side.

A number of people of different nationalities came and went as we sat enjoying our food. The bar also attracted individuals who had come to catch up with friends over an afternoon drink. Being removed from the sidewalk, so to speak, meant that there was no distraction from hawkers, tour operators, or tourists running late for their next activity. This restaurant is very much a place to come and recharge.

The bulk of In Da Belly’s clients are obviously visitors to the country and I think that In Da Belly caters quite well to this diverse clientèle.

If you need to take a break from all the activities that Victoria Falls has to offer, then In Da Belly is certainly a venue that you should try out.

I imagine in the middle of summer it would be packed with even more people taking advantage of the pool, remembering also, that the restaurant is within the Victoria Falls Rest Camp and Lodges. Both food and drink are offered in a relaxed and stress-free environment.
