ZIFA have vowed to investigate circumstances leading to the unavailability of Warriors key players, Knowledge Musona and Tinashe Nengomasha in today’s crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola at Rufaro.

REPORT BY OUR OWN STAFF A plethora of reasons ranging from injury to the clubs getting the invitations late for the players to come for the match, have been cited.

Musona’s Bundesliga side Augsburg and Nengomasha’s South African side Bidvest Wits claim that they got the invitations late to clear the players to report for national duty.

Zifa board member, Elliot Kasu said the confusion surrounding the two players’ unavailability should be thoroughly investigated.

“We will investigate this and if the clubs are not being honest that they got the invites late, then we are certainly going to take action against whoever is at fault. Clubs are fully aware that national duty takes precedence over everything. Whoever is at fault should pay for the mistake. The information that I have is that all the clubs got the invites well on time,” he said.

“Musona is an asset for the nation but the decision to play for his country is his. He is a very talented footballer and it is good that he had reversed on his earlier decision to stop playing for the Warriors.”

On Thursday, Warriors manager Nyika Chifamba told the nation that he had failed to get hold of Musona who had reversed on his earlier decision to turn his back on Zimbabwe because of match-fixing allegations.

Zifa’s stance could spell trouble for team manager Chifamba who is responsible for communicating with the players’ clubs.
