Report by Henry Mhara BINDURA — CAPS United progressed to the quarter finals of the Mbada Diamonds Cup after beating Motor Action in a bumpy Trojan pitch in Bindura yesterday.

Rightback Hardlife Zvirekwi struck three minutes from time, chipping over the advancing keeper as CAPS United chalked their second win in as many weeks. CAPS United midfielder, Tendai Samanja was voted man-of-the-match and walked away with US$500.

Motor Action started the match brightly with midfielder Protasho Kabwe hitting the side netting in the opening minute.

However, save for that first minute action, the match never lived up to the expected billing.

The uneven pitch did not allow players to express themselves, as they were forced to make unforced errors, some of them comical.

CAPS’ David Rediyoni who scored a brace last week tried his luck from a long range but could not find the target.

CAPS United lost Washington Pakamisa and Rahman Kutsanzira in the first half through injuries.

There was nothing much to write about in the second half as both coaches threw caution instead of venturing upfront.

With the match seemingly heading for the penalty shootout, CAPS was awarded a freekick in the Motor Action half. The ball was swung into the box and from the melee Zvirekwi ghosted from the blind side to hit the nets, sending the CAPS United fans into raptures.
