Zimbabwe failed to protect a 3-1 first leg lead, crumbling 2-0 against Angola in the reserve fixture.

The decision was made by the Zifa board which met in the capital yesterday to deliberate on the recommendations by the High Performance technical committee.

The Zifa board had demanded that Gumbo and his technical team produce a report for the entire campaign, giving reasons why the team failed to qualify for the finals. According to sources within the Zifa board, the High Performance technical committee came up with damning recommendations, which would see Gumbo losing his job.

The board would again meet on Thursday to finalise on outstanding issues before issuing a statement announcing the sacking of the entire technical team.

The High Performance technical committee is composed of former and current coaches that include Gibson Homela, Beki Nyoni, Cosmas Zulu, Misheck Chidzambwa, Charles Sibanda, Nelson Matongorere and Dieter Klaus Pagels. The board would also announce all the leadership changes that have been made to all national team structures as from the Under-17, both boys and girls to the senior national teams, with the exception of the Warriors, who would need special attention.
