DeMbare’s fat purse ahead of Tunisia CAF tie

DYNAMOS have dangled a carrot in front of their players to win their away first round first leg of the CAF Champions League clash against Tunisia’s Club Athlétique Bizertin on Sunday.

Dynamos found the going tough on the road last week losing 1-0 in the preliminary round to Lesotho Correctional Services, but set the date for a first round clash with Les requins du nord (The northern sharks) on a 3-1 aggregate score line.

Goals from Tawanda Muparati, Boban Ziruntusa and Partson Jaure ensured Dynamos a commanding lead going into the second leg but Lesotho Correctional Services won the return leg through Thobhane Rankarathe’s solitary strike.

It is against this background of Dynamos failing to get a positive result away from home that has seen the team’s leadership mooting the idea of coming up with more incentives.

Moreover, North Africa has not been a favourite hunting ground for Dynamos with the club suffering a 6-0 defeat at the hands of Esperance to bow out of the same competition last year.

“We definitely have to win this match and we are working on something to incentivise the players. I think by Tuesday we will [have] come up with a figure. We should score at least two goals to be safe going into the second leg at home,” said Dynamos chairman Keni Mubaiwa.

Mubaiwa said the players received nothing after their loss in Maseru and would not want to miss out on the winning bonuses again.

“They lost in Maseru and did not get anything so they would not want to lose again. However, playing for the team alone is the biggest motivator for the players and I am sure they will win the match,” he said.

Unlike Dynamos who have won the local championship 19 times, club Athlétique Bizertin have won the Tunisian League four times and the Tunisian President Cup twice.

The club has also won the Tunisian League Cup once and became the first Tunisian club to win an African trophy, the CAF Cup Winners’ Cup in 1988.
