TWO pupils from Manicaland province walked away with a floating trophy each after sterling performances at the National Association of Primary School Heads (Naph) Healthy Kids Athletics competition last week.

The two, Ngonidzashe Musaandaka and Chipo Ndlovu were rewarded for their medals haul in the boys and girls categories courtesy of Nestle Zimbabwe, the official sponsors of the event held at the National Sports Stadium.

Musaandaka reigned supreme in the boys Under-14 category where he got two medals, gold in the 400m and silver in the 80m hurdles while Ndlovu took control of the girls category were she scooped three medals; two silver medals in the 80m hurdles and the 4x100m relay as well as bronze in the 400 races.

The two are part of a 24-member squad that was selected to represent Zimbabwe in the Zimbabwe Primary Schools National Athletics (Zpsnt) team to compete in the SADCC games, the (Confederation of Southern African Schools Athletics Association(Cosasa) that will be held at the same venue on May 2 -5.

Midlands province were crowned champions after finishing on top of the medals table amassing a total of 18 that included nine gold, three silver and six bronze. They walked away US$5 000 richer for their efforts. Harare won the Physical Education competition. In second place, was Manicaland with 15 medals comprising four gold, seven silver and four bronze and US$3 000.

Hosts Harare settled for third place with 15 medals, two gold, five silver and eight bronze. Harare got US$2 000 for the athletics competition and US$5 000 in the physical competition.

Mashonaland Central walked away US$3 000 richer after finishing second in the physical education competition and Mashonaland East, who finished third, got US$2 000.
