Kawondera’s entrance into the film industry comes hard on the heels of fellow footballers Desmond Maringwa and Murape Murape who featured in Dust and Fortunes.

Coincidentally, Murape and Maringwa are also likely to feature in the film which will see an almost new cast from the faces that the industry is used to.

Scribes Ropafadzo Mapimhidze, Trust Khosa, musicians King Labash and Guspy Warrior (real name Emmanuel Manyeruke) are some of the personalities renowned actor and producer Tavonga Mafundikwa has in mind for roles in the film.

“The whole concept came a year ago when Shingi Kawondera approached me with a storyline. I thought it was an interesting idea and began developing it. It is not surprising that Shattered Dreams has a lot of football background,” said Mafundikwa.

Though playing a prominent role in the movie, Kawondera, who is club hunting after being offloaded by Caps United this season ruled out retiring from football to concentrate on acting.

While not giving out much, Mafundikwa said the film is about a young boy who was raised by his mother and stepfather because his father had died when he was still young.

The young boy is brilliant both in the academic and soccer fields and he catches the eye of oversees scouts. However, problems started as his friend grew jealous of him.

The friend hatched a plan to block the intended move to Europe and it so happened that the young boy did not see eye to eye with his stepfather.

The stepfather had ambitions to be rich and during the diamond craze in Zimbabwe, went to Marange where he was one of the successful people.

He came back home and confided in his wife on their fortune and told her that they will sell it when the time is ripe.

She in turn tells her step son who in turn innocently confides in his friend who immediately hatches a plan to destroy him.

The young boy’s troubles start when his step father is waylaid on his way to selling the diamonds and is eventually killed.

It becomes a mixture of emotions in the drama that flows when he is in prison as the story explores such themes as love and betrayal and eventually justice.

Mafundikwa said the film will touch many aspects of life ranging from life in prison and the justice system.

“We are in the final stages of the script and it has also passed through the hands of a script doctor.”
