Gilbert Zulu thrust Hwange ahead with a headed goal 21 minutes into the match, before James Jam’s powerful shot helped City claw back into contention two minutes later.

William Manondo headed in a poor clearance by Hwange goalkeeper Timothy Sibanda off a Silas Songani cross for the winner 25 minutes before time.

Having deposed Chicken Inn who spent Friday night at the top, City’s lead could also last for just 24 hours if Highlanders beat CAPS United this afternoon.

Boasting of 31 points, they are two points ahead of third-placed Highlanders.

It was a bright start of the second half of the season for City who were thrashed 4-1 by the same opponents at the Colliery on June 23.

Although the win was a statement of intent in their title march, coach Bigboy Mawiwi does not want to read much into the win.

“Yes, we want to win the league but we do not want to look into this win much but concentrate on upcoming games,” said Mawiwi.
