While the maximum points helped the Kariba-based side move one place up the ladder above Buffaloes with 27 points, coach Sunday Chidzamwa fired a salvo at his charges for a below-par performance.

“This is our worst performance since I became ZPC Kariba coach because Flame Lily dominated play from the first whistle to the final whistle. What my players did was to defend that one goal very well,” he said.

Dauda rose majestically in the 12th minute to produce a thunderous header from a Raphael Manuvire corner kick, to give Kauya Katuruturu an early lead after the hosts had dominated the early exchanges.

The visitors had another goal by Protasho Kabwe soon after the breather, but he was waved offside after he had ghosted in from the blind side.

In the 61st minute ZPC Kariba defender Tawanda Munyanduri received his marching orders from referee Munyaradzi Majoni after two yellow cards in the space of a minute — first for a foul on a Flame Lily player, then for infringing on the resultant set piece by moving before the kick was taken.

“It’s a painful defeat because generally we played well, but I think we conceded a bit too early and we failed to recover from that goal,” Flame Lily coach Backlyfield Chivenga said after yet another defeat.
