Pretty Mutandwa has taken the bull by its own horns and established a legal aid company Access to Justice Legal Aid Trust, which seeks to offer legal support in criminal cases, civil matters, labour disputes debt collection, legal advice and maintenance among others.

She said her decision to establish the legal aid trust was inspired by women and children’s failure to access legal services. Mutandwa said she left her company secretary job at a local business and legal consultancy firm to establish the legal aid trust because she felt the disadvantaged groups of society were not represented when it comes to legal matters.

“My focus lies on women and children who have problems and have no idea on when to begin when it comes to legal issues. In these few months that we have operated, l discovered that most people were in the dark,” she said.

Mutandwa said her upbringing and experiences under harsh conditions that saw at some moment her mother losing property inspired her to tread into the male-dominated profession.

“Coming up with this organisation was mostly influenced by my experiences. I discovered that any woman can dominate in any profession as long as you know what you want to do,” she said.

She described her organisation as a bridge where everyone can access justice without hindrances.

“We are taking justice to every household with the support of the Access team, my husband and family; we can reach out to the world and make it possible for everyone to access justice around the globe,” she said.
