Veteran striker Mkhokheli Dube gave the platinum miners the lead three minutes into the second half as he buried the ball home from a rebound.

Harare City equalised through Raymond Uchena just after the hour mark, but Farai Edwin Madanhanga struck few minutes afterwards restoring FC Platinum’s lead.

The miners sealed the game in the 73rd minute when Ali Sadiki’s curling corner kick went straight into the net. FC Platinum’s win sees them crank up more pressure on runaway leaders Ngezi Platinum as they seek to defend their league title.

FC Platinum stand-in coach Lizwe Sweswe was delighted with his team’s performance.

“It’s a good thing to win at home and maintain the winning momentum,” said Sweswe.

“We played well though I believe we need to work on a few areas. Overal, the team is doing well, especially that the new players and the old are playing well together.

“Our objectives remain the same and we will make strenuous efforts to maintain this good form and ensure that we avoid losing and dropping points unnecessarily.”

Mark Harrison, the Harare City coach, was disappointed with his side’s display.

“They are a good side, but still it’s everyone’s desire to win games and collect as many points as we can.

“We now focus on the next game because this loss is already water under the bridge.”

Meanwhile, ZPC Kariba finally scored their first goal of the season as Moses Demera’s second half strike salvaged a point for the bottom-placed side in a drab Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match against Nichrut at Ascot Stadium yesterday.

Tatenda Hapazari opened the scoresheet for the hosts in the ninth minute when he picked unmarked by Asani Nhongo in the box, and calmly slotted a low shot to beat Takabva Mawaya.

The Kariba-based side came into the second half on the front foot and their pressure paid dividends through second half substitute Moses Demera, whose first touch broke their goalless streak.

Demera scored for ZPC Kariba in the 50th minute with a tap-in from a Lucky Vundla free kick.
