The Alice Mbewe hit maker postponed the launch of the yet-to-be-titled album in April.

“The album is as good as ready. We were supposed to launch it in April, but after studying the current trends, we saw it sensible to move the launch date further. This is good for Dendera music and for the fans. The country is in an election mood and we can’t compromise our fans,” Chimbetu told The Standard Style.

“We have done 10 tracks, but we will break it down to eight good tracks. I can confirm that after the elections we will be announce the launch date.”

Sulu has been sampling one of the songs Asante Sana at his live shows, which was coined after former president Robert Mugabe’s memorable speech during the November military takeover.

“Many of our fans have named the album Asante Sana because we have been playing that track a lot at our live shows, but I can confirm that the title of the album is going to come as a surprise to our fans,” he said.

“We might change the title or add from what they have christened it because after, all they are our fans and the consumers of Dendera music.”

Chimbetu’s last album Jamboree did well, with songs like Alice Mbewe, Mhasuru and Tiringwe being the fans’ favourites at live shows.

For the greater part of last year, Chimbetu’s career had been crippled by a series of domestic woes. He appeared in courts over child maintenance issues and was spared jail time at the beginning of the year after he was convicted for defaulting on maintenance payment.
