South Africa-based dancehall singer Simbarashe “Teban Cee” Jacha, famed for collaborating with Jamaican star Gyptian on the single Slow Wine two years ago, is set to release his second studio album titled Unlocked next month.
The eight-track project, which was produced by Quazor of Young Gamez Entertainment and features Trevor Dongo and Jnr Brown, will be launched in Cape Town and Pretoria before coming to Harare.
In an interview with Standard Style from his SA base, the 28-year-old artiste said he was upbeat about the album, whose release was delayed because “we wanted to give our followers the best”.
“I am very happy about how my music has been doing in the market this year and this album is going to open doors for me in the industry,” said the Naye singer.
“There are a few changes I had to do because to release an album you need proper planning and we wanted to give our followers the best.”
The album is a mixture of Afrobeatz and reggae-dancehall genres in what Teban Cee described as in the mould of established West African acts including RunTown, Patoranking, Burna Boy and Stone Bwoy, among others.
“It (the album) is a product consisting of mixed genres and this Naye track is Afrobeatz, so basically the album contains Afrobeatz, AfroTrap, dancehall and reggae as I thought of trying something different but still giving it my original reggae and dancehall feel,” Teban Cee said.
Using Shona, English and Patois, the rising designer-cum-musician is hopeful of greater success than he got when he released his debut album titled Blessed Moments in 2016.
Some of the songs off the album made it in the Top 10 Reggae Charts on the southern side of the Limpopo River with the song Babe Unospaka featuring Trevor Dongo playing on MamsFm SA, Tshwane Fm SA, and Power Ace Radio and Pamtengo Radio, both in the United Kingdom.
Slow Wine, featuring Gyptian, and Vibesy featuring Massicker from Jamaica, also played on both local and foreign airwaves.
The song My Year, produced by Kenyan Felix Kanyi, got Teban Cee nominated for the best upcoming artiste in the Mzansi Reggae Awards in 2012, while also got nominated for Best Zimdancehall Artiste in the Diaspora back in 2014.
