Herentals owner and striker Innocent Benza scored his first goal of the premiership

The 45-year-old Benza looked to have secured all three points for the premiership debutants after coolly controlling Brighton Majarira’s cross with his chest before firing the ball into the back of the net in the 88th minute.

Chapungu, however, refused to give up and their relentless pressure finally paid off when Carlos Mavhurume deflected the ball into his own net in added time.

It was a vital point for Chapungu, who are now four points away from the relegation zone, but coach Rodwell Dhlakama was not pleased with his side’s performance.

“I am a little disappointed with the team’s performance…We expected to win the game and move away from relegation, but I’ll take a point away from home than a defeat because we are looking at a difficult situation,” he said.

Herentals coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva bemoaned his team’s costly defensive error towards the end, which resulted in an own goal.

“It was a very good result for us today although we thought we had done enough to take the three points only to concede a last-gasp goal as a result of a mistake from the defence,” he said.

“The defenders lacked concentration and there was no good communication between the keeper and the defence, but overall we did not do our best maybe because of the mid-week game we played against Bulawayo City. We thought we had got it, but unfortunately we did not.”
