It was not a happy ending that Ngezi Platinum would have wanted after they fell to army side Black Rhinos in their last game of the 2018 Castle Lager Premier Soccee League season played at Baobab Stadium, Ngezi, yesterday.

They finished second on the league table 12 points behind champions FC Platinum. Since the sacking of Tonderai Ndiraya, caretaker coach Klifton Kadurira has struggled at the helm of the platinum miners, managing six points from 15.

Both teams put a dull performance as Ngezi Platinum found their first shot on goal in the 42nd minute through Godknows Murwira.

The visitors could have grabbed the lead in the 57th minute through Wellington Taderera who had a glorious opportunity only for his effort to hit the upright.

Another glaring opportunity came in the 69th minute, but Taderera once again fluffed his effort over the cross bar.

The soldiers’ efforts finally paid off in the 93rd minute after Ngezi Platinum threw numbers in front in search of a goal. Goalkeeper Nelson Chadya’s weak pass to Polite Moyo was intercepted by Allan Gahadzikwa, who chipped the ball over the bemused Chadya to score the only goal of the match.

Black Rhinos coach Herbert Marowa was delighted to complete a double over Ngezi.

“It’s always good to complete a double. During the first round of fixtures we beat them, this time around, we won again,” he said.

“I am happy with the overall performance. We tried to frustrate them waiting for them to make a mistake and they did.”

Kadurira was disappointed with the result.

“We played well for the greater part of the game only a moment of madness from the keeper gave Rhinos the lead,” he said.

“I think we will do much better next season. We ended in second position and we will try to surpass that next time.”
