The Face of Empress Primy was recently launched in Bulawayo with the purpose of bringing upcoming models into the spotlight and one of the major highlights of the launch was the Face of Empress Primy contest.

The initiative is a brainchild of Bulawayo model-cum-designer Fikile Ncube. More than 40 models applied, but only 11 made it into the final list where 22-year-old Sithembiso Muchena (pictured) romped to victory.

For Muchena, being crowned Face of Empress Primy was the greatest achievement so far in her short modelling career.

“I once took part in the Miss Tourism Bulawayo, which gave me confidence that one day I would make it,” Muchena told Standard Style.

“Taking part and winning at the Face of Empress Primy is my greatest achievement and I am prepared to take modelling to the next level.

“I must say I am honoured to be the Face of Empress Primy 2019 and I want my reign to be an unforgettable one. My wish is to take the brand to greater heights and as the first brand ambassador, I would want to set the best and strongest foundation for those to follow.”

Muchena believes modelling is not only a platform to display looks, but a lot of other qualities.

“I believe modelling is a platform to showcase not only our beauty, but one’s intelligence in local and regional settings. I also wanted to be a woman of influence, however, modelling became my break-through to my dream and I will never quit.

“I have always had a dream of representing my country in bigger pageants and I see myself fulfilling that dream.”

Ncube, owner of Empress Primy Designs, said the Face of Empress Primy was now an annual event. She said Muchena won the debut title because of the qualities she exuded.

“We were looking for determination, discipline, hard work and an understanding of the brand as well as modelling skills and Muchena had all the qualities,” she said.

Ncube thanked sponsors who came through for the launch, including photographer Mgcini Nyoni, Sherine Taylor, Event Techniques, Rebelle by Lynn and VCM Auto Refurb for their support.
