Unheralded gospel musician Ronald Mpaso has resurfaced, this time with a 10-track album titled Nguva Yakwana.

Mpaso, a congregant at the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) in Mabvuku, last released a seven- track album titled Makomborero five years ago before disappearing from the scene.

“I released my debut album in 2014 and went out of the country, only to return three years later,” Mpaso told Standard Style.

“I have been working on the album since I came back and it was released early this month.”

Mpaso said the album has a potpourri of languages.

“It has 10 tracks — eight Shona and one apiece in English and Chewa. In 2017, I released a single video off one of the songs on the album titled Ndakayenda Kuna Jesu,” he said.

“The latest album talks about the coming back of Jesus Christ and how ready we are on his return. If we are not ready, there is still time to repent as no one knows the date and time.”

An admirer of the CCAP Mbare Voices, Mpaso said he fused different genres incorporating reggae and Afro-jazz. He said he was still a nonentity in the trade and was seeking guidance from those in the know.

“I’m looking to market the brand, having enough airplay, participating and hosting live shows. I’m also looking for a person who can mentor and guide me in creating ways and a platform for a better brand,” he said.

“I grew up in a family with a Christian background where we had platforms which were set up in church to identify talent. Seeing our elders like CCAP Mbare Voices, Mathius Mhere as well as Diva Mafunga inspired me very much.”

Mpaso said he was looking forward to share the stage with his idols as he was aiming to reach their levels.

“I want to create a brand which is loyal to its followers and market my music on the international stage,” he said.

“I would like to shoot a DVD for the album Nguva Yakwana, but lack of funds at the moment is putting things on hold. Any well-wishers, I would greatly appreciate.”

The album was produced at Cabin Records by David Fangas Kwapatira. It carries tracks such as Dhaviti Wakatamba, Kumberi Ndakuona, Nguva Yakwana, Yehovha M’busa Wangadi, Ndibvumbamirei, Ndakayenda Kuna Jesu, Arikuuya, Tendai Mwari, God of Mercy and Nyarara Kuchema.
