NGEZI Platinum Stars interim coach Rodwell Dhlakama must have heaved a sigh of relief after his charges held their nerve to book a spot in the semifinals of the Chibuku Super Cup following a penalty shootout victory over army side Black Rhinos at Baobab yesterday.
Dhlakama was given the task of winning the country’s premier knockout football competition was initially left frustrated after his side failed to make use of the opportunities they created in regulation play.
Nevertheless in the end he was delighted they still managed to get the job done after becoming the fist team to book a place in the last four of the competition.
The decisive moment in the penalty shootout came when Ngezi Goalkeeper Nelson Chadya saved Marvelous Mkumba’s spot kick to become the hero of the day for the 2016 Chibuku Super Cup winners.
Ngezi had converted their spotkicks through Qadr Amini Frank Makarati, Kelvin Bulaji, James Nguluve and Keith Murera while Jameson Mukombwe, Tapiwa Sibanda and Farai Banda converted theirs before Mukumba’s penalty was saved.
Ngezi Platinum Stars coach Dhlakama was happy with the win although he lamented his side’s failure to convert their chances.

“Again we were not on point in terms of our conversion but the good thing is that we have qualified,” he said.
Black Rhinos coach Herbert Maruwa happy with his team’s performance in regulation time.
“We cannot judge the team by the penalties I felt my guys did well but after all that is what cup games are like. We missed a golden opportunity in the second half had we scored we could be talking a different story,” he said.
