Chicken Inn forward Valentine Kadonzvo could miss out on the initial return of topflight football which commences with the Chibuku Super Cup next week as his club is reluctant to let him join Ngezi Platinum Stars where he has been training.
The forward has requested to join Ngezi and has been training with the platinum miners, but Chicken Inn consider him to be AWOL.
Chicken Inn secretary Tavengwa Hara said the club was not sure about Kadonzvo’s intentions although he admitted that the player had indicated plans to move on.
“He just indicated his intentions to join the Ngezi Platinum and he hasn’t been part of the team. We don’t know his intended plans so far,” said Hara.
“But we are ready for the matches.”
With the player transfer window set to close in two days, Ngezi Platinum need to finalise the issue if they are to enjoy Kadonzvo’s services.
Ngezi Platinum Stars chief executive officer Nyasha Kadenge confirmed that Kadonzvo is currently part of their squad preparing for the new season as they await finalisation of clearance issues by Zifa.
The Premier Soccer League recently announced that players with clearance issues will be provisionally registered with the clubs of their choice pending finalisation of disputes by Zifa.
The issue of player contracts has been a hot issue among various clubs as Zifa has been sticking to its resolution that player contracts that expired in December should be rolled over to this year.
Domestic football is set to resume next weekend after a year’s hiatus due to COVID-19-induced lockdowns, with the Chibuku Super Cup tournament that will see teams being placed in four groups. The first pool will have Dynamos, Caps United, Harare City, Herentals, Yadah and ZPC Kariba, which will be based in Harare.
The second group will feature Bulawayo Chiefs, Bulawayo City, Chicken Inn and Highlanders.
The third group comprises of Manica Diamonds and Tenax, Black Rhinos and Cranborne Bullets will be based in Mutare while FC Platinum, Ngezi Platinum Stars, Triangle United and WhaWha will be stationed in Zvishavane.
